Whence came Squirl?
I suppose this is as good a time as any to explain why I am the Squirl. I did not name myself though I do deserve it.
We've all seen squirrels in the road. The squirrel sees a car coming. "Better go right...no, left...wait, no, right...no," squish!
Well, I'm not (terribly) stupid. I just see too many possibilities associated with each decision in life. And yes, life has (squish) run me over more than once for my inability to make that lightning-quick decision. Or a even a moderately fast decision.
As I've gotten older I think my decision-making processes might be getting better. Probably just because the older you get the more you don't give a shit what others think anymore.
Anyway, the name has nothing to do with a bushy tail or anything interesting like that. Just my personality being compared to a rodent. My apologies to the rodents.

Hey, squirl is better than pecker-gnat. That's what my mom used to call me. I don't know where she got it. I shore do hate it, tho, I shorely do.
Pecker-gnat! That's terrible. What's up with that? I hope that's the worst thing she ever did to you. I didn't get this nickname until I was over 21 so it didn't scar my little psyche. Don't think I would've handled pecker-gnat very well at all. :-)
Hey, I saw your post on my buddy Brothergrimm's blog, and thought I'd check ya out...You seem like you have an interesting and fun personality, after only your third post you seem to have a following!
When I was around 14, my friends started calling me Ape (obviously from my name April) and it started as a joke, then it stuck. Only a few still call me Ape, but if anyone else did, I'd have to put an end to it. Still doesn't compare to Pecker-gnat though.. wow.. that really is bad!
Hi April - Ape isn't very nice, but you're right, Pecker-gnat is really bad. An it was Courtney's mom!
Thanks for coming over. Most of my following is borrowed from my sister Bucky4Eyes. I don't know how to get her link in here yet but if you're interested in her site you can go to my previous posts and click on her name. She's hilarious.
Both you and Courtney, though, came over from comments I left on other blogs. It pays to read and comment. :-) I found BrotherGrimm from a post he left on Bucky's blog. Neat little community going on around here.
Please visit any time. Thanks!
Ape and Pecker-Gnat? Sweet jesus, girls! Maybe we could have a little group therapy here, speaking as someone tagged with "Bucky Four-Eyes" by a "loving" brother.
Heh. You said "bushy tail." Teehee.
Ladybug, I wondered if anyone would pick up on that. :-)
Y'know, I'm terribly surprised (and a little disappointed) that Bucky didn't, um, jump on the "bushy tail" thing. (*snicker*)
Ladybug - It does seem like something Bucky would comment on. However, the part about jumping on my bushy tail sounds kinda incestual, doesn't it? :-)
Squirl!!!! Stop saying that to LadyBug, already.
When I was getting my training to be a head-shrinker, I had to do all these psychological tests, and one of the results was that, for someone with my temperament, decisions were very difficult (even things like multiple choice tests), because I could see so many possibilities, and choosing one felt like a loss of all the other options. Sounds squirl-like, don't you think?
In the 40s, we definitely no longer give a rat's ass what others think. And that is a very good thing.
Don't you love blogger. How did that comment get in there that many times? I can't even get them to erase. Ugh!
Susie, yes, by the time you hit your 40s you're not caring as much what others think. Thanks for letting me know I'm not the only one out there having trouble with so many possibilites. You're so right. As soon as I choose one the others are lost. As a head-shrinker you are right inside my squirrel mind! Thanks!
ahh, a decision-phobe, eh? me too. good luck with the blog!
Yes, Sarcomical, a decision-phobe, hence the name. :-)
Thanks for commenting and thanks for the mini-vacation. That was cool.
Yeah, my mom wasn't always the nicest lady, but 'pecker-gnat' came from some joke. Sorry I didn't get in on the comment action before, but blogger hates me!
Courtney - Blogger hates everybody. If you go to Bucky4Eyes site you'll see the prayer she made to the blogger gods. :-)
