The Gardens
The Frederick Meijer Gardens, that is. It's a lovely place and getting better all the time. It's in Grand Rapids off of M37. I went there a number of years ago when it was still quite new. They're really getting it pulled together now.
But my favorite time of the year to go is when the butterfly exhibit is happening. I can't get many good butterfly pictures, but the orchids are at their peak then. So let's take a peek at some of the flowers and stuff I saw there. :-)
You can check out my whole set on Flickr. But I will try to be merciful here and only post some of the pictures.
This one is my favorite. It looks even better if you click on it and choose All Sizes.
I like this one because the flower is cool and I got a butterfly in motion.
This isn't quite in focus, but he's so pretty and usually closes up when he lands. Then he's all brown.
This one looks better larger, too.
It was warm enough to be outside without jackets that day.
And I'll end it with the waterfall.

How incredibly gorgeous, Squirl! Your photography skillz are really something to behold in this set.
I don't know if I have a favorite, so many of them are just fantastic. I did stare at the first one for quite a while. There is something about the lighting that is really perfect. I think because the angle of the sun is making the petals glow.
You know, I think I'll check out your set on Flickr by slideshow, now that I think about it.
This really cheered me up. :-D
You and I are SO going there, and soon!
Danielle, thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed them. I'm even happier that it cheered you up. :)
Bucky, yes, we definitely need to go there together. You'll like it. I guarantee!
JDR, that's right, you guys are just heading into fall. Is it cooling off there any yet?
I need to make a trip over there -- I adore orchids and butterflies. By the way, I thought the first photo was one you tweaked in photoshop -- I thought it was a fractal at first!
Courtney, you should see the gardens. There are better ones out there, St. Louis is the best I've seen. But this one isn't bad for Grand Rapids, MI. The butterfly show is through the end of April. :)
You're the second person this who said that first one looked like fractal art. No tweaking in Photoshop here. I have no skillz in that direction. ;-)
WOW!! I remember some of your orchids from last year, but you've outdone yourself, photographically speaking!! These are nothing short of spectacular!!!!!!! I'd love to visit there someday.
Eclectic, thanks!!! I wish you could come over here. I'd take you there myself.
ooh! It's time for my annual "nice pictures, achew!" comment!!
Kittn, thank you! They are gorgeous flowers, aren't they? I've never tried to grow my own, though.
Mr B, bless you! and thanks!
Squirrel you live in Grand Rapids MI or near there. I dont think we are that far apart then. I know we are are about two hours away from Escananaba MI. I live in G B, WI.
Love all the pics but my total favourite was the very first one. It looks like flowers AND a solar system. Nature is so cool.
Wow, just, wow. Your photos blow me away as usual and I think these are some of the best I've seen from you.
On a tangent, doesn't that Meijer guy make the hotdogs we Brits are always seeing on US TV shows?!
Tweets, you would have a bit of a drive to come down Grand Rapids way.
Kranki, thanks! Yeah, nature just blows me away, too.
Platypus, thank you so much!
This is Frederick Meijer. The hotdog place is Oscar Meyer. And now I have the jingle running through my head. :)
Oh my gosh, those pictures are absolutely gorgeous. I am so impressed. Now I want to go see it myself.
hmmm, I shoud bring my hubby and little girl there sometime...I like the narcissuses (narcissi?)
Oh, I want to go to! These are just beautiful and breath taking and I know I always say this. I'm going to say it again Like Always you have talent girl!
Make that I want to go too! :P
Thanks, Laurie, but the best garden is really in St Louis, MO. Not complaining about this one, mind you. Thanks!
Effie, that really wouldn't be that bad a drive for you. Not sure how your little would like it yet, though. :-)
Nina, yes, I think you'd enjoy it, too. It'd be a long trip for you, but the elevation here isn't too bad. And thank you!
Thanks for sharing a bit of color with us. We're still living in the land of the brown.
OMG, thank you for sharing your photos, they are wonderful!
