Klutz
I've written before about being a klutz. It's a natural talent, just lucky enough to be born that way, I guess. It usually is something that happens, I get embarrassed or not, and move on. After my Thursday morning klutz I haven't moved quite as much.
I had my boots on. I promised JDR a picture of these but I haven't gotten to that point yet. Anyway, I had my boots on and with my purse and computer bag over my shoulder I got to the top of the four steps leading to the back door. This was inside, mind you.
For some reason, my foot on the top step decided it didn't need to let me travel down the stairs. Unfortunately, the rest of my body hadn't gotten that message. So what ended up happening was that both of my feet folded up under me, forcing my knees to really bend and go ahead of me down the steps.
All I could think of, besides pain, when I stopped moving was that my ankles were at very unnatural angles to my legs. I had to pull them out from under me, all the while yelling things like ow and shit. Ichabod was still home and he came running over to see what had happened.
I checked them out and the bones were all still where they were supposed to be, but it hurt like hell. He would've carried me back in, if need be. But while he got my purse and computer for me, I butt-scooted back up the steps. Then I took some tentative steps. It hurt, but I could still walk.
Most of the rest of the day was spent in my comfy chair with ice packs on my legs and ankles. As it turned out, my left ankle and right knee took the biggest hits. Can't bend my right knee past a 90 degree angle, and the left ankle just decides to remind me, when it feels like it, that I put it through unnecessary hell.
I didn't think to take pictures until today, so things have probably gone down a bit. There wasn't much swelling in my knee, so I've spared your eyes that picture. But here's a picture from the top, showing the difference in the two ankles.
Here's the right ankle with just a little bit of swelling behind the ankle bone.
Now, here's the left one.
So I've been working from home, reading, and watching movies. I hope it's a long, long time before I pull a stunt like this one again.

No more falling!
And it does look like your ankle swallowed a grapefruit.
Bucky, I really would prefer no more falling. If that's a grapefruit then it didn't agree with me. ;)
Hi, JDR! I promise I will post a picture of the boots. Yes, I am talented at hurting myself. It's just not usually at this level of stupidity and pain. :)
But you did go to a doctor, right? RIGHT???
Courtney, I called the doctor's office on Thursday and then again on Friday. They told me take anti-inflammatories (ibuprofen was my drug of choice) and put ice on the sore spots. I've been on my feet a bit more than I should've and I can feel it. I just hope I'm up to going to work on Monday.
Oh yeah, that's a bad one. That hasta hurt like crazy. Hope you heal fast!
Laurie, yeah, it hurts, dang it. Thanks for the healing wishes.
ooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwchie.
I would've been saying more than ow and shit. ;-)
I hope that you are feeling better really soon and that you are able to heal quickly enough. Because, ouch.
I've done that once before, in front of a bunch of people, but I don't think it was such my klutziness as my own stupidity.
I was on a bus and had stood up to walk down the aisle to get something when all of a sudden the bus came to a quick stop and my body went flying and my feet didn't. I had no idea how my feet stayed planted, but oh well.
I guess I shouldn't have been standing when the bus was going..tsk tsk.
Anyway, don't fall again. Your body will thank you. :)
Again, hope it feels better soooon so you can get back to dancing with life.
Ladymadaysia, my recall isn't that good. Maybe I did say something stronger than ow and shit. :)
Wow, that sounds painful, what happened to you on the bus. At least I was home when mine happened. You still had to get home.
I will do my best to not fall again. I'm sure my body will thank me for that.
Ow! Shit! I feel your pain. I'm so sorry you got hurt. Elevate your ankles, when you can. And put a bag of frozen peas on them. I'm just being bossy because I wish I could do something to make it better.
Susie's right, a bag of frozen peas will conform to your ankle. You can refreeze them as necessary, however watch out, I had a bag get an itty bitty hole in it and it leaked pea pee all down my back. Gross!
Ow shit! That hurts just to look at it!! Please keep it elevated and iced, and take lots of ibuprofen (vitamin "I")! Hope you feel back to normal soon -- please be careful with my sister!!!!
I've had that swelling before and its very painful. Love your sqirel thumbnail.
OUCH!
You outdid me. My feet did the EXACT same thing on Wednesday afternoon. I only bruised my knees and twisted my wrist though.
Damned disobedient feet!
Susie, I love your bossiness. I love that you care. :)
Laurie, pea pee. That's a good one! This is why I have an ice gel pack with a cloth cover. :)
Eclectic, took my ibuprofen and my feet are up right now. I will try to take care of your sister. Seems I get a bit careless at times.
tkkerouac, thanks for stopping by. People have tried to get me to use a different thumbnail, but I'm kinda partial to this one.
tshsmom, oh, I'm sorry you fell, too. I can do my job when I'm like this. You have such physical labor and I'll bet you don't get sick days. I hope you're doing okay. Stupid feet. And this is one contest you don't want to win.
;-)
I fell once like that except for we lived in an upper apt. I was dogsitting for a friend ours. A friend came over so I put the dog out and when he left I went to let the dog back in and was only two steps off the platform and down I went. This friend of ours let the dog in for me and helped me back up stairs. I had K upstairs at the time. So I took about half an hour to see what my foot was going to look like and it had turned black. I mean black. I didnt have my digital camera at the time so I cant post this one. So I called the clinic and they had me come in for x-rays. Nothing broken thank goodness. But do you know how hard it is to stay off your feet when you have a 14 month old crawling around? Not easy to relax.
Tweets, I almost said that in the post, that it's a good thing I don't have little kids to keep up with. If my ankle had turned black I'd've gone to the doctor's office, too.
Ouch.
Oh dear! Your ankles look so much worse than I was originally picturing. Ow OW!
I'd say only go to work if you can manage to keep your feet up somewhere while you do your work. You definitely don't want them to take even longer to heal than they would if they stayed elevated.
Hang in there. :-)
Mr B, yeah, that fits. thanks
Danielle, I don't think I can really put my feet up, but at least it's mostly a sit down job. We'll see how tomorrow goes.
Thanks!
Ouch.
Thanks Squirl so much for posting at Nick's place. We've not posted much at each other's place but I always see your squirly picture over at Nicks and I feel you a part of my community too.
Thanks for being so proactive!
xx
Pinks
Pinks, thanks for stopping by. Yes, I feel you're part of the little community, too. Laurie's the one who got me started on trying to find him. I'm just glad that he uses his real name and that he posted his sons' names, too.
He still needs our prayers, lots for him to go through. :)
OUCH!!! That looks so incredibly painful. No more falling for you young lady, that's an order!
Thanks for all of your detective work! You are awesome!
SoozieQ, I'd be very happy to follow that order. :-)
Laurie, you're welcome. You got the ball rolling. All it took after that was WhitePages.com and the nerve to cold call some numbers. Thank you!
Ow, and double ow. It hurts to look at the pictures. I see you don't need another mother telling you what to do. So I will just add you have some good advice here. :) I hope you are feeling better.
Well since its monday how do you feel? Up and walking around better than you were over the weekend I hope or take another few days if need be? Hope it doesnt hurt as bad. Tweets.
OUCH!
Bless your heart, Squirl, that looks so painful. I hope you're feeling much better today.
Love and hugs, my friend.
Thanks, Nina!
:-)
Tweets, well I rested it a lot over the last four days. Now that I'm at work I've been doing a lot.
I signed up w few weeks ago for a yoga class that started today. I decided to go anyway. Told the instructor what happened and he told me to just do what I could. So far, not too bad. We'll see later tonight. Thanks!
Ladybug, yes it is getting better. I was very careful with it over the last four days. We'll see tonight if I overdid it. Thanks!
Kittn, you are the sweetest. Thank you! See you tomorrow. :)
That is good you got to rest it. Well hope yoga doesnt hurt it to much. Take care.
Out of curiosity, what was the first profanity out of your mouth, post-falling?
Tweety, I was just really careful when I did the yoga, only did some of the poses. Thanks!
Bone, I'm trying to remember. I don't know if it began with f, or took someone's parentage into question. I was a bit too freaked out to remember. Ichabod doesn't remember either. He just said that I reacted so loudly that he thought I'd hurt my back or something.
Kittn, my camouflage boots. The ones you've seen. I just didn't post a picture of them yet.
I'm a klutz, too, Squirl. It totally sucks. I hope you mend quickly.
Lynn, so you're part of the Klutz Klub, too. I'm sorry for you.
It's amazing how quickly it's healing. Thanks!
Oh, Sweetie!
Yeah, time for some ice and vitamin Ib-broken.
Hope you get to feeling better soon. *healing vibes*
Oh jeeez! That sucks. Poor you!
I have to admit I have done the EXACT same thing. We need our own stunt women.
MD, thanks, hon! I did all of those things right from the start. The healing is going amazingly well.
Thanks!
Kranki, of course, with your background in cinema you would have a wonderful idea like that! I love it.
How's your new little one?
Thanks so much for letting me know that Nick was able to post to his blog. I appreciate it!
owowowowow!!!
put some ice on those ankles--just not the ice on the ground!
are you feeling better yet?
Laurie, you're welcome!
Effie, I did a lot of ice pack on my ankles. Didn't even try to go outside for days. It is healing up now. Thank!
Thanks, GWB. It's getting so much better now. :-)
