New Blogger

Well, I gave in. I went ahead and switched to the New Blogger. There were scary stories out there of losing posts, or at least comments. I'd also heard that switching was inevitable. If you don't switch yourself Blogger will force you to change.

So, rather than be forced, I decided I would be a willing, albeit worried, participant. With my blog/web assistant sitting right next to me I saved a copy of every month's worth of posts. Then, literally crossing my fingers, I clicked to change to the new blogger.

All I can say is, so far so good. How many of you haven't changed yet? If you have changed did you have any problems?

I ended up swapping to Wordpress. I was over Blogger doing her nut and just not working all the time. Temperamental Bitch! That'll teach her!

JDR, I've noticed a number of people moving to WordPress. Blogger can be pretty temperamental at times. The one thing I don't like about WordPress is that it doesn't show the timestamp on a post.

I changed over months ago. No problems for me, but about a week ago I lost comments for a couple of days, which was frustrating.

Laurie, I would hate to lose comments. That's the best part of blogging. I hope you're trouble-free from here on out.

It made me switch today. I couldn't get in to my old blogger; I kept going in circles until I agreed to switch. So far, I think it's all OK, though.

Squirl, I've had no major problems since I switched, except learning that I could do things with new blogger that I thought I couldn't until I learned how to do them!

Hi Squirl! Well I changed over but almost immediately found that people on old Blogger couldn't comment. I then moved over to Wordpress and absolutely love it. Oh and just to reassure you after your reply to JD's Rose, there are timestamps on all my posts so it is presumably just a setting.

I switched on Thursday because they wouldn't let me into the dashboard until I did. I tried EVERYTHING to get in, but no matter what I did, they wouldn't let me log on until I switched. So far, (crossing fingers) so good.

Susie, I thought I'd seen the new Blogger look at your place and didn't remember that happening. Just wondered if I was being unobservant!

Nick, isn't wonderful what we're still able to learn. :)

Platypus, I'll have to look at yours to see where that date stamp is. Maybe I'll ask my other Wordpress buddies to change that setting. Thanks!

Eclectic, so you got forced into it, too? I was beginning to think I was being forced, but it just looked different when I checked my dashboard. I still saved all of my posts, just in case.

I switched over when it was first available and didn't have any problems at all. I did have the same comment problems that Laurie had a few days ago, though, but that has since been fixed. I don't like the free wordpress because I don't know nearly as much about CSS as I do HTML, and I would like the option of using Javascript, but I am considering the uber complicated one that you install on your own web space/domain.

Blogger has problems, but I think about it this way: if you're maintaining a blog on your own server then you occasionally have to do maintenance and may still have to fix a few problems -- all by yourself and for your own self. Blogger has to do maintenance and fix problems too, but they have to do it for hundreds of thousands of people, not just one. So I get what I pay for. Which I've been able to do A LOT with, with only minimal problems, so I accept the problems/glitches.

I dunno, that's just me -- I'm trying out this whole, "try to put a positive spin on the situation" thing. :P

Courtney has a point. Free and ease of use are features that I couldn't live without. ;)

I'm glad that you didn't lose your template Squirl!

Courtney, yes, I have thought about the servers and staff needed to house a business like Blogger. The fact that it's free is great. So every time that I think Blogger sucks, I do realize that live people are trying to fix this so I can work here for free.

That's a positive spin that has lots of merit. :-)

tshsmom, I'm in complete agreement. Thanks!

I don't think we had any issues. I'm pretty sure all the services out there will have problems on and off, it's the nature of the beast. WordPress will have its day.

Blogger forced me into switching. There is one thing that went wrong, though. Many comments from previous posts replaced you guys's names with "anonymous". I have to admit, I was disappointed and pretty ticked off by that. Everything else seems ok.

I tried to changing my template to the new 'layout' thingie instead, but I had to change back to a regular template back because I couldn't get my rat's ass or my blogroll up with with layout.

Mr B, yeah you're probably right about WordPress.

Lynn, that sounds really frustrating. I'd be pissed about losing names. And Bucky usually fixes my template for me, so I don't want to mess with it.

Bucky, you just saved everything, didn't you? I hope you did anyway.

I changed right after I started blogging with you gals. I have a hard time logging in unless I come into like yours here and make my comment and then sign in and then I can go visit the rest of my friends and make comments. I hate it some days but others its nice. I didnt use the other one long enough to know the difference really. I have to say I never lost any comment as far as I know when I first started out. I mean when I make comments sometmies I lose them but never losing my friends comments. Well anyway hope you like the new blogger. I am still learning all the neat stuff. Tweets.

Tweets, I'm glad you didn't lose your commenter's comments. It happens fairly often that a comment I'll make will just vanish into the ethers. :)

Gosh, I don't think I lost any comments! I didn't know people had, or I would have been freaked out! But it only gave me one more chance to log in under my old blogger account before I had to switch.

[How did you save your posts? I need a blog assistant to help me with these technical elements.]

Erin, it's a good thing you had no horror stories before you made the switch.

Bucky showed me how to save my posts. I clicked on the dates under my archives. Then I went up to File and chose Save Page As. Then I kept the name it already had and saved it in my My Documents.

I don't know how to save them if you have a Mac. It's probably different.

i heard horror stories too, but switched three of my blogs over without any problems a-tall.

i've still got a couple of blogs in old blogger, but they're inactive for the moment, so i've been lazy about switching them.
