Doin' 'Shrooms

This has been really warm winter weather. Instead of snow we've had plenty of rain. So, instead of snow in my backyard I have mushrooms.

I love the convolutions of this one.

And this one looks like an alien life form from Star Trek.

Neat pics, Squirl. Are any of those edible? (Unlike Bucky I am referring to their gastronomic use rather than their hallucinogenic use).

There's a fungus among us.

I'm sorry, I am compelled to say that.

Cool!! I've got a great collection of mushroom and shelf fungus pics. Unfortunately, they're on slides. :(

But they're not mushroom-shaped. Didn't they get the memo?

What do you mean "this one"? They're ALL from Star Trek. See that one right there? Ain't that Kirk?!

JDR, I know. I think they're all the same kind, but they each came up with a slightly different configuration.

Bucky, I'm, like, high on life.

SS Nick, thanks! I have to look up what they are. Ichabod and I picked up an Audobon fungus field guide today to check them out.

Bucky, it had to be said. ;)

tshsmom, too bad you can't post those. I'd love to see them. I know, you could project them and take pictures of that. Probably wouldn't be the same quality, though.

Susie, they think outside the box. :)

Happy Birthday!

Mr B, they are pretty alien looking. But I think that Kirk has morphed into Denny Crane.

L got me a slide copier for our scanner 2 years ago, but I haven't had time to mess with it. I managed to copy an image, but it's slide sized. When I enlarge the image, it gets fuzzy. I think I need to play with the pixels.

Want some snow? I will send you some. I would love to have some shrooms growing in my backyard in Jan. But since I don't I will have to enjoy your really cool pictures.

Wow! Those are really crazy looking. I've never seen mushrooms look like that. So curvy and wavy - really unusual.

tshsmom - whenever I had to scan slides at school, I had to do something like 2000 pixels per inch. In fact, one of my favorite pictures is from a scanned slide.

Since the slides are only like an inch and half wide, that is the only way I know of to get decent resolution. Unfortunately, the file size is large. But what can you do?

tshsmom, I don't know anything about this process, but it looks like Danielle has pretty good advice here.

Nina, sorry, hon, I'm not really looking for any snow. Maybe your area can warm up and melt some of that off. Come back and enjoy the fungus any time you want. :)

Danielle, we're still trying to figure out what kind of mushrooms they are. Thanks for the info on the slides.

Thanks Danielle! I'll start out on 2000 pixels and go from there. That will save me a lot of experimentation!

August, I was soooo hoping you'd come over for the fungus fest. I know you like to photograph them, too. Happy Birthday!

Does this stem (ar ar) from our having a room in the basement called The Mushroom when we were kids?

Great photos Squirl. We had a lot of 'shrooms in the yard when we were irrigating this summer, but I can't imagine having them in winter.

Thanks, Laurie. We're finally getting snow again today. I was kinda getting used to this no snow and temps in the 40s. :)

Are you sure they aren't alien life forms?

Nick, I love that kind of synchronicity. How many factors went into our being at each other's blog at the same time. :)
