Peonies

I was lucky enough to have a peony planted in my yard before I moved here. So, with little to no work on my part I was able to have these gorgeous flowers.

These pictures were from a couple of weeks ago.

Then last Saturday, after a night rain, I got these shots.

And this one is my favorite.

OMG, those are beautiful!!! I love peonies!!! They always take me back to my grandma's house.

Apparently my grandad (who died when my mom was still a girl) had been an avid gardener and adored peonies, because he had planted them around the perimeter of the house. They were growing there still the last time I was in the area, though Grandma died in 1986, and the house was sold.

We didn't have time to dig up our peony bushes and bring them with us when we moved out here. :( I'm jealous!

Eclectic, I love peonies, too. I love that they remind you of your grandpa's house.

tshsmom, I'm sorry you had to leave them behind. Ichabod's sister had so many in the yard when she bought her current house that she was giving them away. We didn't have a place at the time or I'd've taken them.

Nick, thank you!

Is that the same plant that had us guessing earlier in the spring? I love peonies, and they were my mom's favourtie. When I finally buy a house I'd like to have some yellow ones.

Peonies are so glorious. The look, the size, the scent. God really does like us, to give us those :)
Thanks for sharing.

I really like the second photo when the peony is still a vivid pink and the light is turning the tips of the petals white. It also looks very three dimensional and striking against the dark green background.

Although, the droplets on the blossoms look really nice too.

Good shots!

Sounds like Tshsmom has some serious peonies envy!

You know I have to work that joke in at every opportunity, right?

I'm sorry...I see it as something of a moral obligation.

I just remembered a story from my youth. Wow.

When I was really young and still living in Detroit, MI, we had this little brittle black woman next door that would never say much to us... but would always smile as she watered the peony plants she grew along the property line.

They were the biggest peonies I ever seen (of course, this is a rememberance from before my head bloated to the size of a mutant canteloupe) and they always smelled so fragrant and sweet.

Mother would never let me take one in as they were not our flowers to pick. To quell my disappointment, she planted me a peony plant of my very own so I could pick them and bring them in my room.

When it didn't take (at all) after a year, mom asked the brittle old bat what she used to get her peonies so lovely.

Crazy old bizzo peed in her watering can all day then diluted it with water to feed her plants. Wow.

Courtney, yes, it is. You remembered! I hope you get to grow some one of these days.

Tweety, thanks!

Susie, yes, it's just another bit of proof that we're loved. You're welcome. :-)

Danielle, I'm glad you enjoyed them. Thanks!

ChiaKittn, you really need to borrow a camera.

Bucky, yes, your MORAL obligation, of course.

Kranki, you're welcome. Sounds like I'm lucky or else these are some really good, strong peonies. I wonder how old this plant is.

ChiaKittn, that's a freakin' hilarious story!

Ladybug, thanks! So nice to see you.

Nice Peonies.

Peonis Envy...just what I thought too Bucky...

Anyhow Squirl, I remember those in Ironwood, MI at my Grandma Talo's farm. In July they were always covered with ants. She never sprayed anything on them because my two cousins, my brother, Scott and I were always so fascinated by them.

Email me if you'd like Squirl, I would love to hear from you.
