Birthday trip

I finally uploaded all of my pictures so I have no excuse to put off posting any more.

Last week Monday was my birthday. I love the flowers at the Frederick Meijer Garden, though I only usually go in March when the butterfly show is going. But there are still lots of orchids and now there are outside flowers, too.

So, here are some pictures from the day. If you want to see the whole set you may go here

It always starts in the desert house.

Then there was this cool flower.

I love the pitcher plants.

Of course, here are the orchids. Remember, you can click on any of these pictures, choose All Sizes, and see them in the larger version.

Then, on the way out I decided I needed to photograph this one. There's a guy named Dale Chihuly who makes beautiful glass art. There was a full exhibition there a few years ago. I'm assuming this is a permanent piece now. This one's really worth a peak at the large size.

Way cool flowers. Nothing like that growing in my backyard in Ohio. I am very jealous and filthy dirty trying to take care of my simple daylillies and marigolds!

Wow, Squirl. I just looked at the full set on Flickr and I see that you picked out the best of the best for your blog post.

I was really struck by the lime green/green orchid in front of the wooden wall (cabinet?). It is just so striking and the wood carving in the background is just subtle enough to lend it an extra artistic flair without being overpowering. Really really nice. Definitely frame-able.

I also love the outside flower that is yellow and pink. Do you know what those were? They remind me of peonies, but it seems too early in the season for peonies.

Thank you for all of the flowers. They are just gorgeous and really brightened my morning. :-)

Tweety, thank you. I'm glad you guys also have a botanical garden so close. I sometimes forget how lucky I am to have loads of places to go within, maximum, three hour's drive. There's Grand Rapids, Detroit, and Chicago. Plus, the lakeshore here is nice, too.

JDR, thank you so much. I always appreciate your stopping by and commenting. I know how very busy your life is.

Momkiss2u, I just checked out your site. Sounds like you have plenty of cool things growing in your yard. And it's no wonder you're filthy, what with your hubby ordering 5 yards of black mulch.
Thanks for stopping by!

Danielle, yes, I like that cabinet, too. I think it's Victorian era. I think the yellow and pink flowers are double tulips. It is too early for peonies. My stuff at home blooms later than in Grand Rapids, because we're cooler in the spring and summer. But they're not even ready yet.
I'm so glad you enjoyed my pictures today. :-D

GORGEOUS!!
Our leaves are just starting to leaf out, so it'll be awhile before we have anything blooming.

What gorgeous colours. Lovely. Chihuly's stuff blows my mind. Was this the place where he did a show and placed his glass work throughout the flowers? I saw a docu on that.

I can't believe I missed your birthday! And it's the same day as my brother, so that must surely mean you're truly my sister... and I missed your day and I'm sorry. These are stunning photos -- AGAIN!! You have a wonderful eye for floral photogragphy, IMO. Glad you had a nice day for your birthday -- many, many happy returns!!!

Courtney, I think I'll just visit them, rather than try to take care of them. :-)

Kranki, I know that Chihuly had a big show here, but I'm not sure if it's the one you heard about. His stuff is really amazing.

htgt, that would be really cool!

Laurie, you're so very welcome.

Bone, thanks! ;-)

Susie, thanks! I'll have to go check it out.

tshsmom, that one made me chuckle. :-)

Eclectic, you've been busy. I don't know how you have time to keep track of anything these days. That's cool that I share a birthday with your brother. Thanks, I'm glad you liked the photos.

Don't think I wouldn't!! They'd never notice if I just divided a little off the root clump... :P
