I Am From
I got this from Susie's site. You can check at the bottom of hers to see where she got it. And I did my best not to copy Bucky's, though hers was wonderful.
I am From
I am from paper dolls, carefully cut out and tended; from Koolaid and Space Food Sticks.
I am from the brick house, smaller than I remembered, yet happy, with vivid memories that I can still feel to this day.
I am from the sycamore tree that made the yard a mess for at least three seasons, the climbing yellow rose bush that my mom loved.
I am from making music and not confronting the negatives, from Mary Margaret and Fr. Bob and Leo.
I am from the tendency to make a joke whenever possible and always hoping it will be a great pun.
I am from "look both ways before you cross the street", and "ladies don’t use the s word".
I am from a base of Catholicism. No one in the immediate family attends anymore.
I am from Kentucky and Ireland and Germany and Switzerland. From chili with spaghetti in it, and cream cheese with Miracle Whip on toast sandwiches.
I am from the man who loved the woman who would be my grandmother so much that he tried to keep her innocent. The same man who, when they hit a bump in the road and my grandmother hit her head on the roof of the car, had to keep a straight face when she said, “You knocked me up!” and their daughter who had the lively sense of humor and great musical talent who allowed me the privilege of being her daughter.
I am from all of the wonderful photographs, some recent, some definitely not, that link me to the past and the family that will always be there, if not physically, then in spirit.

Ha, see, there was still plenty for you to say!
I was thinkin' of the Space Food Stix, but I couldn't remember what they were called.
And the cream cheese on white toast with Miracle Whip...everybody always thought we were so weird!
Oooh, oooh, and what about "Mickey Mouse Sandwiches"?
Cream cheese and Miracle Whip? Uggh! What is/are space food stix?
I LOVE paper dolls. They are so unappreciated now. Your grandparents sound lovely. And those are some weird-ass sandwiches y'all ate ;)
So you have some memories from a house that Bucky probably doesn't even remember, right?
What a nice job. Sounds like you had fun growing up. I enjoyed the part about your Grandparents.
Bucky, yes, Mickey Mouse sandwiches. For anybody who's wondering, they were hard-boiled eggs that were sliced and put on white bread with Miracle Whip. The egg slices were supposed to look like Mickey's ears.
Mr B, I know the sandwiches sound gross but that was a Friday meal as we grew up Catholic. No meat on any Friday back then. And, about Space Food Sticks http://www.spacefoodsticks.com/spacefood/preservation.html
Susie, I used to make my own paper doll clothes, too. I loved them. My grandparents were very special to me. And you're right. Bucky doesn't really even remember the house in Kentucky. She was only two when we moved. But I had to keep checking her post to make sure ours were mostly different. :-)
August95, this one was harder to do than the 100 Things about Me. I hope that, if you feel up to it, you might want to do this one. Yes, although there was always the normal bickering and garbage that happens in a family, we had a pretty good one.
Okay, I'm behind in my reading. August95, I see you beat me to the "I Am" post. I'm officially a jerk here. Apologizing.
Sorry, still sounds icky.
Space Food Stix sound interesting though. I love the junk food.
This is such a beautiful format for a post. What a nice way to learn about your early childhood.
I may mull it over for a while (along with the 100 things) and do it in the upcoming weeks.
Mr B, Ichabod describes them as kinda like a Tootsie Roll, but not as good.
Danielle, I know you've been busy lately but I hope you do find the time to do these. I even surprised myself as I did these exercises.
Thanks Ichabod! I may pass based on that info as I don't like anyone messing with my Tootsie Rolls. I do like some of the flavored ones, but not all of them.
Gosh I need some Red Hots....
Mr B, I thought you were red hot!
That was just lovely!
But there seemed to be a whole lotta Miracle Whip goin' on at yo' house. MW with cream cheese, MW with mice and eggs...! That's right up there with the "fluffer-nutter" I'm thinkin'.
Eclectic, we never did the Fluffernutter so, I guess this was our substitute. :-)
Paper dolls!
I had a Cinderella set which came with a fold-out cardboard castle.
I so knew I was truly royalty, and adopted by regular people!
Oh, Sierrabella, I know what you mean. I lived through my dolls quite a bit. Does anybody play with paperdolls anymore?
Squirl, that was beautiful. Seriously. I'm all teary, here.
See? I knew you could bounce off Bucky ... that was gorgeous and heartfelt and honest and fun ...
Ladybug, thanks and sorry for the tears. These tend to that.
Nilbo, glad to see you here again. Yes, this is a good one to do. But I thought that was your job, to bounce off Bucky...
The fluffer-nutter is a horrid concoction dreamed up by someone who must hate humans, but my beloved was raised on them: a wonderbread sandwich of peanut-butter and marshmallow creme which they referred to as "fluff."
Oh...the horror.
Oh, the horror... You're cracking me up here and I'm sitting at work. Thanks for the laugh!
That was really lovely. I have learned so much about people through these posts. Thanks for doing one.
Kranki, you're welcome. Sometimes it's hard to know how much to say. I really am a private kind of person and try to watch how much info I put out here. I get lulled into a false sense of security with the wonderful people who come here and comment. Sometimes I forget that anybody could be coming through and reading. Mebbe I'm just paranoid. :-)
But, you know, I enjoy reading other people's too.
Fluffer-nutter scares me! Ewwwwwww! Gimme my cream cheese/MW or Mickey Mouse/MW any old day!
And, um, some of us still play with paperdolls.
So what if they're cutouts of me and LL Cool J and Taye Diggs? And so what if the only doll with any clothes is mine?
So?
This was a really great thing for us to all do. I really am enjoying all of these.
But I hear you and bucky are holding out on haunted house stories and I just cant have that.
Nope. Not one bit.
Bucky, you're cool, you're cool. Sounds like fun to me, too.
Jess, yes these things are fun. Actually, Bucky and I need to get together with Tardist. Of the three of us he's the only one who ever had that for his full-time bedroom. I just mostly remember a horribly creepy feeling from one area in the room.
A great contribution, although I am a bit perplexed by your family food legacy. Miracle whip and cream cheese!? Well, I know someone who eats peanutbutter and mayo sandwiches, so I guess maybe it's not THAT wierd!
This meme is so great. I love being able to learn such cool things about everyone!
P.S. What are Space Food Sticks?
That'll tech me to comment before I read everybody else's stuff. Space Food Sticks. Duly noted.
Squirl, you and Bucky have both disappeared today, the very day AFTER I posted my first comments on both of your sites. Don't make me develop a complex here, ... please?
Kitty, I will not laugh at your collard greens. Did you read the woodchuck story yet?
Ern, um, I eat peanut butter and mayo sandwiches. I guess I like weird sandwiches. :-)
Plum, are you going to do this meme. It's really fun and makes you think about a lot of things you hadn't in a while.
Eclectic, no offense. Just kinda busy. We'll be back.
