Fourth Annual Blog Cookie Exchange Ripoff
Update at bottom. With earrings!
It's a ripoff because I didn't find the time to put together anything new this year. But, of course, I have to participate. If our lovely hostess can pull it together, then so can I.
My main Christmas recipe, that was my mother's favorite is rum cake.
Rum Cake
1 box yellow cake mix
1 small instant vanilla pudding
4 eggs
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup rum
Combine and beat 10 minutes on medium speed. Grease and flour tube pan. Bake 1 hour at 325 degrees F. Cool slightly, remove from the pan.
Sauce
1 stick butter
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup water
Bring to boil. Boil 1 minute. Remove from heat. Add 2 ounces of rum. Poke holes in top of cake with fork. Spoon sauce over cake while warm.
Here's the cake.
The last two years our neighbors had this display. They're not doing it this year.
This one looks like a study in Pointalism.
And, of course, a tree.
I bought some new holiday earrings from Silpada. Here they are.

That cake looks YUMMY! But really? You have to beat it for 10 whole minutes?
Stop on over to my place--I'm serving rum of the hot/buttered variety. :)
I was just going to say, I may make your rum cake and Shawkey's buttered rum, and sing, "fall on my ass..." Sounds like a plan.
I love the lights. I love Silpada, too. I have a jingly bracelet that I got last Christmas. Jif bought it for me, via MYSELF using his credit card on eBay!
This is a fine ripoff you've pulled off here. ;)
Sharkey, yes, I've always stood there with the mixer for the full 10 minutes. I think it makes it fluffier or something. I will definitely stop by your place.
Susie, yes, yes, you should! I've never bought Silpada before, but I liked the snowflake earrings.
Thanks!
Sooooo...are you makin' rum cake this year? (hint hint hint hint)
Bucky, I haven't made it in a few years. Maybe I will this year. I might take it to Ich's folks. If you don't go there with us I'm sure there will be leftovers.
That does look pretty tasty.
OOh, purty earrings :)
Mr , it really is. You can adjust the amount of rum to your own taste.
Susie, thanks!
That cake looks so yummy I may just have to try it myself.
Love the earrings! Sparkly is good.
htgt, the cake is good. And it's really easy. Thanks about the earrings. I don't usually wear anything except the little diamond studs. But I think these will be fun.
the earrings look really pretty. I've always liked snowflake designs. They are so symmetrical.
E, well, you could drink rum while you bake and eat the cake. How's that sound?
Danielle, you know, maybe that's why I bought them. I have never bought from Silpada before, might never again. But I love snowflakes, too. They're so symmetrical and so fancy.
Squirl in dangly earrings??!??! That's a new one :-). I don't think I've ever seen you without your studs!
I Lovvvve Rum cake, but I hate to bake....looking at all these blogs with bake goods I feel ashamed of myself....an old granny who doesn't like to bake....but I do love to eat....LOL Have a Merry Christmas...judy
That cake sounds wonderful!! Of course, anything with rum in it can't be bad.
A lot of homes around here aren't as decorated as normal. I'll bet our new, higher, electric rate has something to do with that. :(
My mom makes this type of rum cake too and it is sooo yummy. It also tastes better the next day so left-overs are always in high demand. Yummy, yummy, YUMMY!
And very pretty sparkly earrings too.
That cake does look good. Those earrings are beautiful. I dont wear enough of them anymore. I have my ears pierced. but I just dont wear earrings.
Merry Christmas Squirl and Ich!
Chia, it's just for the holidays.
Judy, thanks for stopping by. And Merry Christmas to you, too.
tshsmom, it's too bad electricity cuts back on the lights. We really need extra light this time of year. You're even farther north than I am so you'd understand. And that rum cake smelled so good yesterday when it was baking.
Kranki, I made the cake yesterday so it will be the best today. :-)
Tweety, thanks!
tshsmom, Merry Christmas to you guys, too. :-)
Merry, merry Christmas to you, Squirl and the delightful Ichabod! It was one of the highlights of my year to meet you on your trip to DC. Thank you!
Merry Christmas, Squirl!
I hope you and Ich have a great day!
I'm sending a hug across the miles to snowy Michigan. :-)
