Christmas Holiday Traditions
Susie has started a movement that she calls the Blogworld Cookie Exchange. We are to share our favorite recipes, traditons, holiday clothes, etc.
My recipe is one that my regular readers are probably tired of reading about by now.
Rum Cake
1 box yellow cake mix
1 small instant vanilla pudding
4 eggs
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup rum
Combine and beat 10 minutes on medium speed. Grease and flour tube pan. Bake 1 hour at 325 degrees F. Cool slightly, remove from the pan.
Sauce
1 stick butter
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup water
Bring to boil. Boil 1 minute. Remove from heat. Add 2 ounces of rum. Poke holes in top of cake with fork. Spoon sauce over cake while warm.
This is the result:
I have a pair of socks that were given to me when I used to waitress. They all had some type of winter themed socks. The pin was given to me by a former workteam leader as a Christmas present. The earrings I bought for myself.

FIRST!!!! I get to eat all the cake!
MMMmm, that was good :) I'm so glad you played. Your sox are way too cute! I still have to get my stuff together. It would be terrible if I invited everyone to a cookie exchange and had no stuff for them!
Susie, I've been thinking about getting all this together since I got the e-mail. Luckily, I didn't have too many things to look for. Usually I'm not terribly organized but I do have a very small collection of holiday jewelry. For St Paddy's day I have a shamrock pin and for New Year's I have earrings in the shape of cocktail glasses. Glad you liked my socks.
I hope you enjoyed the cake. Good luck getting your stuff together. We will be disappointed if you don't post.
Do you have any left over rum?
Hehehehe grease the tube pan.
Grease it!
hahahhahahheheheehehehuhuhuhuhh
ya ya
Grease it!
The infamous rum cake!
That doesn't look too hard either. No soaking of the cake or anything.
I like your bell earings.
And well, your socks, but you knew I'd say that, right?
Mmmm, rum cake.
I'm working on mine right now. It's, um...not as nice as this one.
I like those earrings!! And I'd like the rumcake, too.
Any recipe that has 1 stick of butter in the sauce.. is ok by me.
I love your Christmas socks.
Nick, there is always plenty of leftover rum as we don't drink it. It sits there all year until it's time for me to make rum cake again.
Jess, must grease the tube pan. The cake will stick and tear if not. Do we really want the cake to go through that kind of pain??? Would you like to help with the greaseing?
Danielle, thanks! If there were ever a get-together of all our blogger buddies I would be obliged to bring rum cake. Maybe two.
Bucky, I think I'm skirred. But of course I'll be checking out your site as soon as I've finished my comment here.
Eclectic. thanks! It is tasty cake.
Kylz, thanks!
August, sometimes I cut that in half to cut calories. But it really does call for the full stick of butter in the recipe. Thanks!
Cute socks, Squirl!
I used to have some cute, festive Christmas jewelry, but I don't what the heck happened to it.
Oh--the coveted RUM CAKE recipe! I should join and post a recipe of my fave Christmas cookies soon...maybe tomorrow!
I have about 6 pairs of Christmas earrings--all gifts....yours are cute!
What about the holiday enema kit? How come nobody talks about that?
I love anything made with sugar and butter, and I mean anything What wrong can come of that pairing??? Uh...NOTHING!!!
I could basically heat that concoction up...and eat it straight. I'm that sick.
Bucky, is that the one with the fresh, evergreen forest scent?
eclectic, are you thinking of "launching a holiday fragrance?"
Okay I have been coming here all day and blogger wasn't letting me see this post. So it looks like you all partied without me. So I guess I will have to make another rum cake.
The socks are really cute, and something I do every year I wear socks. I like the holiday jewelry. ..
I wonder if the directions on the cake box for high altitude directions will be enough of a change? I guess I will try it and see.
Susie Fairchild, are you interested in such a product?
*heh*
Thanks, Ladybug. Isn't hard to keep track of your stuff when you have kids? Even if they don't lose it for you, you're spending all your time watching them, not your own stuff. :-)
Effie, please post your cookie recipe and pictures of your earrings.
Bucky, I think that belongs on your blog along with your special "ornament".
Chia, no you didn't, but thank you!
LeafGirl, hi! I love your new picture! Yes, that is a great combination. I have trouble staying out of it before I put it on the cake. :-)
Eclectic, I haven't seen Bucky's answer yet on this one.
Susie, tee hee. I read that too.
Nina, thanks! I'm sorry Blogger was bein' a bitch. There's some cake left. But if you decide you want to make the rum cake, the cake mix box will give high altitude directions.
Eclectic, tee hee
Holy shit I love me some FOOD!
Mr B, I'm so glad. I also think your ferret is cute. ;-)
A Squirl would think a ferret was cute.
Oh, Bucky, like this is some kind of rodent thing? At least there are no muskrats involved.
tudndumz
My mom makes this cake and it rocks! Mmmmmmm...
*blushes at Sqrrrl noticing his ferret*
Kranki, I like it, too. :-)
Mr B, don't be so shy about your cute ferret there.
