Sports don't always equal evil

Sports does not equal evil when it means that you get out of work. A couple of weeks ago we had a workteam get-together on work time. We decided to go to a hockey game. Since the arena is only a few blocks from my apartment I worked at home in the morning.

Around eleven I walked over and, eventually, met up with the other folks from my department. We grabbed food from the local vendors and sat down to enjoy the game. My food included a pint of beer so I really did enjoy the game. Never got too cold either even though we were just two rows up from the ice.

The Griffins ended up beating the Manitoba Moose. It went into sudden death overtime and then shoot-offs. I had to have this explained to me as it went along.

Here are the souvenirs I got:

Here is the Griffins' mascot:

Here are a couple of shots that show just how close we were to the ice:

Well, you see, Eclectic, I still got home in time to see General Hospital so I was cool with the whole thing. :-)

Chia, it was a good time.

I keep tryin' to get a team-building exercise at work to go see an early matinee of Rent, but no takers yet. Well, no bosses, anyway.

Great seats for the game, though.

Ahh, against the Manitoba Moose, eh?! Woulda been a good game...I'm not a fan of hockey unless I'm actually at the arena or I know someone who's playing...hot chocolate always goes well for watching a game though!

Glad you had fun!

Oh, and not to be a pest, but shouldn't your title say "Sports do not always equal evil"? Teehee (smack me now, I know, what a little pest)

Bucky, I think seeing Rent would be a great team-builder. What could be better than mooing together???

Effie, the beer was cold but it's a good attitude adjuster. And I just changed my title. :-)

I have never been a great fan of ice hockey, but if it can get you out of work, I could become one.

Hockey is the MOST evil of all sports. I'm a little bitter here, but I live in a hockey town.
It's actually one of the few sports that I understand, but I won't admit that in public. ;)
Our work team has bonded by working together 260 days a year, for 25 years.

I think liking sports when you can get out of work is a good choice. I went to a hockey game once. I was cold and I don't like being cold. I had to have it explained to me too. :)

My word verification is dheuhua sounds exotic or just plain weird.

tshsmom, restaurant work is very hard. I've done it and wouldn't choose it again unless I absolutely had to. Hockey doesn't affect me one way or another. Just another sport.

Nina, I dressed warmly when I went. I wasn't too worried about how much I understood. It's kinda like basketball to me in that there's a lot of constant action. Not sure about your WV. Mine is vygjovnd, no clue about that one. :-)

Kranki, you never know what they'll have money for one day, and then scream poverty over the next. I feel no guilt taking advantage of things like this when they come along, though.

I understand enough about all the major american sports to follow a game, but that said, if sporting events disappeared from the face of the earthy today, I can't say I'd miss a one of 'em.

Unless it would get me out of work.

Squirl - The Bear and his Cubs are going to be at the Grif's New Years Eve game (tickets arrived today). We are planning to eat at that three story bar/restaurant across from the arena before the game, and celebrate New Years Eve there afterwards. Come on down.. I'll buy you and Ichabod the first round! Maybe even the second!

tshsmom - this SO explains why you never post comments on HOCKEY FRIDAY! But isn't it kinda unpatriotic to be from the so called State of Hockey and admit to hating it? Even if I hated hockey, i would never go back to Hockeytown and admit that!

Sports in person are a whole different kettle of fish than sports on TV.

And hockey and basketball (i.e. fast paced team sports) are more entertaining to me than any others.

Although really close seats at slow sports (baseball, football, golf) can make up for the lack of excitement.

Oh wait, I just remembered, I can watch figure skating on TV quite happily. Some might say it is not so much a sport though.... so, maybe that is why I like it - music and costumes and pretty dance-like moves combined with amazing athleticism.

Oh, and I can watch Olympic gymnastics, swimming, diving, and volleyball on TV. But don't the Olympics kinda make them different?

or perhaps I'm a bigger contradiction when it comes to sports than I realized.

Ladybug, you bet! They try to do stuff like that off and on. Our Christmas party has no company money involved, though. We're going to the boss's house and bringing appetizer-type food.

Mr B, well BEFORE they're cold. Oh, wait, that was the last post...

Bucky, sports can get pretty earthy sometimes. ;-) I wouldn't miss 'em either if they were gone.

GreatWhite, you're coming to the B.O.B.? Cool, which restaurant? There are four. I'll have to tell Ichabod. Sounds like fun! And tshsmom must be pretty brave, huh?

Danielle, I think a lot of people would argue that figure skating isn't really a sport. As far as I'm concerned it's kinda like the "is a tomato a fruit or vegetable" argument. It's there, why worry about its pigeonhole? I can even handle watching baseball. But football has sooooo much downtime and it's usually outside in cold weather, not my favorite. :-)

xwfbzeuy Except for v it almost got the full tail-end of the alphabet.

Those are all very neat shots. I've never been to a hockey game in my life, but I have played hockey once or twice before. Always some fun stuff.

Sports aren't always evil.

And somehow people always say things are better with a pint of beer. ;)

En, Have a pie.

Greatwhite, yeah, I'm sure that's the one. Do you have reservations? Everything downtown is packed on New Year's Eve.

Amber, you've played hockey, huh? Not me, not me at all. Of course things are better with a pint of beer. And pie. :-)

Kylz, I think hockey looks pretty dangerous. I see you're from Australia. What kind of weather do you have there?
