Dinner and a walk
Ichabod and I went to dinner downtown tonight at a restaurant called Bentham's. We had a nice view of the Grand River and the beginning of the sunset from our table. As we left the restaurant I took these pictures of our view.
Then we took a nice, long walk down to the John Ball Park Zoo. We decided to sit at a picnic table and rest a bit before walking back. Well, I needed the rest. Ichabod goes on much longer, faster walks by himself.
There were quite a few ducks and geese in and by the water.
Then Ichabod whipered to me to be quiet. He saw the heron before I did. Unfortunately it was really starting to get dark so I'm not sure how these pictures will show.
Then we decided it was time to head home. I couldn't keep my camera in my purse when I saw the sunset.

Danged if you didn't have a purty night all the way around. You're even more obsessive with the camera than I am. Good job!
Bucky, thanks! It was a nice night. I have to say that I am always thinking about blogging when I take pictures now. I also like to think how I could put a story together using pictures. If I need to have an obsession then taking pictures of sunsets and blue herons is safe enough.
What a lovely evening. I'm happy for you, and a little bit envious. LG has a friend over whose mom is out of town (in China, actually), so we ordered in pizza and watched Pirates of the Carribean (2 Rs, 2Bs? I can never remember). Your night sounds and looks really nice.
Thanks, Susie. Pizza is good. And who wouldn't want to watch Johnnie Depp? I just had to look it up. I spelled it the same as you, but it's really Caribbean. I never could remember that one, either. :-)
But, yes, it was a lovely evening.
You are so clever to bring your camera along with you on your night out. Lovely photos.
Watch out for those geese, they can be really mean if you get to close.
Red at night sailors delight! Beautiful sky.
I saw the heron! It looked very close. :)
The sunset was beautiful. Nice shots.
And yes, I too have decided that if photography and storytelling are my obsession, it is not so bad. :)
Thanks, Kranki! So many times I've gone out for a walk and a perfect picture is right in front of me but my camera isn't.
Besides, I haven't been feeling really creative lately so it gave me a new post without having to think too hard. :-)
Kitty, yes, we were in your old neighborhood. It seemed pretty peaceful last night. We stopped by the Dairy Whatever and got some ice cream. We walked down that way earlier this week. Of course, we pretty much stay on the main drag. It's such a pretty area right down by the zoo.
August, I know about those nasty geese. Did we talk about this before? I just happened to still have a snow shovel in my car that kept that old SOB goose away from me.
Danielle, I think I learned the picture storytelling from you. It's too bad it was getting dark when I took the heron pictures. If you click on them and look at the bigger versions it's a little easier to see. Thank you!
I don't think so squirl, can you point me in the direction of the post that tells THAT story lol.
August, I never did post about it. I had just gone down to the water to watch the birds. This was at a boat launch and a lot of people feed the ducks and geese down there.
There were quite a few geese hanging out in the parking lot and one was getting very aggressive and loud. It took the snow shovel (this was spring) to make him stay back. I never actually hit him, I just had to go toward him in a threatening manner.
Perty, very perty.
Thanks, Mr B! Is that profile pic a younger version of you?
You had told me about the snow shovel and the goose when I posted "the geese, and the people" "the geese, and the people" when I visited Mnnpls.
that might be what you were thinking of with August95.
Danielle, I knew I'd told someone about that. Thanks! :-)
What a lovely spot right in the city! Both the restaurant/river view and the park.

Thanks, Ern. Grand Rapids has some very nice spots in it.
There are some nice pics in your Blog Squirl
Yep, that's a younger me at a time when milk was my only option.
Seems like Kitty's gettin' all maternal.
WhiteTrash, thanks!
Mr B, I love your picture. Hmm, nothing like a maternal Kitty.
WOW, just beautiful, and it sounds like a lovely evening, one I would enjoy!
Yikes, geese and snow shovels, sound about right to me. I have been confronted by an evil goose and was unarmed! LOL. I gave it a very wide birth.
Love the pictures, Squirl!
Keep that camera handy.
Nanina, thanks. It was a very lovely evening.
August, yeah, they can be pretty feisty.
Sierrabella, thanks! I'm really enjoying that camera.
Kitty, I think the two of you had just bettter talk this one over privately, if you know what I mean.
*sigh* I had a view like that sunset one once - then they put all these apartment blocks in the way and they don't make nearly as nice a silhouette.
