A new bird for me

I was sitting at a friend's house today looking out at the bird feeders. There were cardinals, juncos, downy and hairy woodpeckers, and various sparrows. Those are nice but fairly common at a feeder.

Then we went out for a ride. I forgot my camera so the pictures below are from after I got home. They're not quite as good as what I saw over the river. But even if I'd had my camera with me I wouldn't have had time to get a picture of the northern harrier that I saw down by the river. I've never seen one of them before that I know of. It was pretty exciting.

Here's what the sky looked like today.

First! Wow, pretty. On Thursday, Jif and I saw a bald eagle here. We had seen them before out west, but never one here. Exciting :)

Hi Susie! I kept looking for that harrier and later saw a big bird that was soaring really high in the sky. I might have been a bald eagle as there are nests in that area. I'm so pleased for you that you saw one close to home. They are exciting to see. :-) Thanks

I remember when Seattle had skies that looked like that. It was in 1945, I think, and the boys were just home from the war and everyone was feeling very happy...............

Oh wait. I lied. We've NEVER had skies that beautiful.

Jim, are you serious? You guys don't get skies like this? I might have to take Seattle off the list of places I want to live.

Well, there are three days in August that it looks like that. Otherwise, it's pretty grey.

I don't know what to be more excited for - CLOUDS! or A NEW BIRD!? I love clouds, as you know, and these are very beautiful furry-looking ones. But the Northern Harrier trumps them. That's so exciting!

Jim, it would be nice having mild winter weather, but I would miss beautiful blue skies and cool clouds.

Ern, I'm so glad you came over to share my excitement with me. The clouds were fun, but the Northern Harrier - Woo Hoo! I am thrilled. And I was just whining that it wasn't spring so I hadn't seen any new birds lately.

We have days like that in the middle of WA state.
I love those kinds of clouds. They catch the colors of the sunset or sunrise and make the colors develop into something reminiscent of a painting.

Only an hour away, and my sky didnt look like that. I'm sad now.
Then again, I was inside judging oral arguments most of the day-light hours. It was cold, and I want summer. That is all.

Not to mention all those birds Bone Machine had on his birthday post.

Chia, new sunglasses? Cool! I hope you're feeling better.

MD, I thought I'd get some good sunset colors, too, but I didn't. I'm just happy to've gotten the cloud pictures. So the middle of the state isn't quite as gloomy? Okay

Lawbrat, sorry you were holed up all day. I'm ready for summer, too, darn it.

Mr B, I was very proud to be one of the birders for Bones birthday. It was an excellent idea. :-)

Ok we wait DAYS for a new post and we get 3 pics of sky, I mean its pretty but pfft, and a bird story?

And not even the funny kind of bird that your sister flips.

Where is the sex? Where is the violence? Where is the car chase? Where is the foolishly long drawn out fist fight like in They Live?

Sigh

I'll be back.

Jess, okay, maybe the next post will be all sax and violins. Maybe a bit more innaresting.

Chia, so glad you're feeling better. Do you have a picture of your glasses yet?

Nick, thanks, yes I agree. Especially with the snow we've had today.

Nina, no cardinals? Oh, I love them, they're so beautiful. I'll bet you get some good Western birds, though. Thanks!
