A trip through the Garden Part 3

And now, the final installment.

Not sure what this flower is.

I love the fog that they do here to keep it moist.

I like the way the light is shining through the fog here. It shows better in the large size.

I couldn't leave without getting a shot of this fellow.

And, for the last photo, one more butterfly.

A trip through the Garden Part 2

Of course there were many more plants there. Here are various shots that I got. That time of year is the orchid exhibit, too. So, yes, I had to get some of those too.

Here is the start of the orchids. I like 'em best when I click on them and choose All Sizes so I can see the large version.

A trip through the Garden Part 1

Last spring I went to the Frederik Meijer Gardens. It was spring when they do their "Butterflies are blooming" display. They bring in many, many chrysalises and place them in their tropical exhibit. They are very careful to check people as they leave that no butterflies are hitchhiking. No exotic species are released that way.

I like to go every year. Not only is it fun to see the butterflies, they have beautiful plants throughout. I took a lot of pictures. There are only a small portion that I'm going to show you. You may now breathe a sigh of relief. :)

Because there are so many I'm going to break them up into three posts. Some photos I'll explain, others I'll leave to your imagination.

It starts in the desert house. I had to snap a few pictures here.

Then it moves into a more temperate zone.

Then it was into the tropical part. You'll have to click on these and check out the Large size in order to see the butterflies. Those little buggers are really hard to shoot.

Grafitti and stuff

Ichabod and I took a walk a week or so ago. We walked around an area that wasn't terribly populated. There was some interesting grafitti there.

I really liked this one.

Here's the closeup.

Here was some more on the same building.

This was a painted over sign on a building. It reminds me of something from the Beatles Yellow Submarine.

I had to take this picture. Acme always makes me think of Wile E Coyote.

Then, a week ago Friday, we walked over to the west side and I got some pictures of a scrapyard.

Too hot to go for a walk today. Maybe I'm a Michigan wuss, but 94 degrees is a bit warm for me to exercise outside. :)

Giant Lava Lamp

Okay, there must be some old stoners in Soap Lake, WA. I think this is for real. They want to put a 60 foot lava lamp up in town. Why would anyone want a 60 foot lava lamp? Can't they think of any better tourist attraction. Who'll they attract? A bunch of more old stoners?

Anyway, here's the site. Please, please be sure to listen to the Giant Lava Lamp song. I want to hear what you think of it.

The rocket's red glare...

Did you really think you were going to get away with no fireworks pictures? :)

I'm going to post my favorites. If you're interested then you can check out the rest at Flickr. I actually took a lot more than what's on Flickr. Most of them weren't as good as I'd have liked but that's why there were, originally, over a hundred of them.
