A birfday party
Last Sunday was the birthday of one of Ichabod's sisters. When we got to his mom's house we saw this cake full of crayon-candles. It was funny because the sucker was loaded. But it was also the same day that Susie had posted about buying crayons. I actually thought I'd post this picture last Sunday, but didn't happen.
Anyway, here's the photographic proof:
And, of course, Annie was hanging around for any food that she could get.
This is her normal sitting position, legs off to the side and tongue hanging out of her mouth.
She figures if she hangs out long enough some food has to drop on the floor.
And if she can't get food any other way she'll do the devil dog glowing eyes. Check it out, they even reflect on the cabinet.
Now for the flower pics. These came from a Mimosa tree in Grand Rapids. I would like to have one of these trees. I love the flowers.

Ah, Bone, so will that get the fire out of her eyes?
Annie!!!!! The goofy sit is what Brizzy does until we tell him to "sit pretty" and then he sits straight and tall. Love those mimosa flowers!!
Eclectic, I love it. Is that a Golden Retriever thing? Aren't those flowers gorgeous? I gotta get me one of those.
Do you have fire in your eyes, too, Bone?
And, NO, you are NOT expendable. I said so.
That Mimosa tree is gorgeous....it looks like sparklers......and if it can grow in GrandRapids, it could grow in Ohio....I'll have to check into that one......thanks for sharing it with us......Cute picture of the pup...
We had a Mimosa in our front yard when I was growing up (still working on that part). Anyway, one year it got hit in the V by lightening. Later, that spot rotted out a bit. Then, one day, all of a sudden, a couple of years after the lightening, a volcanic explosion of black ants poured up through the V. It was quite exciting as you can imagine.
It took on a dreary drift-wood appearance after that and wasn't around much longer.
Great minds. I love that cake! And the mimosa tree, too. And you :)
I looked up the Mimosa tree and all articles say "Tree to avoid" because it travels so fast and has deep roots.....I think that I probably have half the tree they say to avoid.....lol but it is a beauty in those pictures.....
Love the cake . . . I hope Annie got some too.
I have never heard of a Mimosa tree ~ they are some gorgeous flowers.
Judy, those trees are gorgeous. I think that they spread a lot in the south, but we're far enough north that I don't think it would be a problem. Thanks!
Mr B, I would imagine that a bunch of black ants pouring out of a tree would be cool to a little boy. :)
Susie, hi! *waving* I was hoping you'd stop by and see the crayon candles. Love you, too. :)
Hi, nina, it took me so long to post my comment that I missed yours.
I'm not sure just where that kind of tree is native, but they're pretty.
Annie actually got some whole ears of corn. She seemed to prefer the cobs, though. :)
Not one that doesn't like bugs.
Oh, it's bugs AND birds. Wow, must've made it a difficult chore to tell you about the birds and the bees...
Kittn, aren't they, though? Thanks, same to you.
Bone, that really sucks. I hate not getting enough sleep. I order massive amounts of Visine for you.
Annie's gotten so big! And she looks so soft and snuggly.
Those flowers are really cool! I had just scrolled down enough to see the very top of one of the pics, and I thought it was a photo of fireworks!
Happy three-day weekend to you, Squirl.
That cake rocks...except for the whole chocolate thing.
I like the evil Annie. She could definitely be part of Steve's dog army with that look.
I should post the pic of Hairry, when he was a puppy, with those evil, glowing eyes. His eyes do that with a flashlight too...makes camping a little freaky. ;)
What a great cake! I love those crayon candles!
And the mimosa tree flowers are great. Definitely look like sparklers or fireworks. For some reason, I thought mimosas were a different flower. I must've seen them from a distance... or maybe there are different types. Anyways, very pretty. :-)
Thanks for posting the Annie pictures. They always give me the warm fuzzies.
I always enjoy birfday parties. Alex always enjoys food. Wish we had been there.
Ladybug, Annie is soft and snuggly. You'd love to pet her. I love the Mimosa flowers. Maybe I'll get one one of these days.
Bucky, I was just glad the cake wasn't German chocolate, then we're talking coconut - YUCK!
Annie sure looks scary enough for a dog army in that picture. :)
tshsmom, I would love to see that picture of Hairry! He seems like such a sweetie.
Danielle, especially after Susies's post I had to take pictures of that cake.
I don't know if there are any other kinds or not. Ichabod says, "That's what my-mosa looks like, your-mosa must be different." :b
Ern, you are more than welcome.
Nick, I wish you could've been there, too. I wonder how Alex and Annie would get along. Annie loves everyone. I'm not sure about Alex.
I'm not sure if I love Annie or the flowers better! Both are beautiful (devil dog eyes and everything).
I love the crayons - I'm going to find those candles and use 'em on my next cake.
That cake looks seriously yummy. Did it set the smoke alarm off?
Jim, I think both Annie and the flowers are beautiful, too. :)
Kranki, thank goodness it's warm weather. Since we'd eaten in the back yard, the cake was also served there. She let her five- and six-year-old nephews help blow them out.
Wow, my cache must have bitten the dust for a while, because I kept coming here and thinking, "Why hasn't she updated?" and then I see that you posted Thursday. Thursday? Oh boy.
Anyway, look at that crayon cake! It looks good.
And Annie! She has grown so big!
Also, beautiful flower.
I hope you have a wonderful labor day.
I saw that you were painting and ripping up carpet. How is that going? I have been there, done that. I hope that it all goes well for you. Cheers!
Kittn, you are so right. I think she is about done. She's on the small side, but I guess females are smaller than the male retrievers.
Amber, I hope you have a wonderful one, too.
The work on the house is, literally, a pain for me. I'm used to my desk job. All the up and down on the ladder and stuff you have to do to paint is getting to me.
Ichabod is having a heck of a time finishing the floor. It turned out to be in need of more work than we anticipated. But it's going to be nice. I think with some more cleaning around we'll be good to go soon.
Hiya Squirl!
Cake--and colourful candles--you could probably use those candles as crayons in a pinch, eh? I mean, crayons are wax, right? These would just have a pesky wick in the way....
Not too much more reno work to do, I hope! I seriously FEEL your pain with that one--it takes a LOT of time and effort, eh?!
Hugs to you! ANd a lively *KICK* from the little one who seems to have endless kicking energy...
Pssssst... Squirl? Where you been? I miss you!!
Those candles are amazing! All these days and they still look fresh.
Effie, thanks! I think I'm mostly just going to finish up some cleaning now before we move the furniture in. It was in good shape, there were just a few things we wanted to change. I will have pictures one of these days.
Eclectic, I've missed everyone. I can't believe how busy real life gets sometimes. :)
LL, thanks! The cake was pretty good.
Kittn, I think I'm done painting the master bedroom now. We'll see after I pull off the tape.
Bucky, that's a subtle hint that it's time to post again, huh? Well, okay, I guess I can take some time away from working on the house to post some pictures. :)
