Alaska, Cruisin', Part 5
We got up early on Monday so we could drive the 2 1/2 hours down to Seward for the day cruise. It was raining a bit on the way, but it wasn't too bad. What was great was the double rainbow it caused.
We got there with plenty of time to spare so we sat and enjoyed the sun and scenery.
Then we finally got going. It was just beautiful, if a bit chilly.
If you look at this on Flickr I put a note so you could see where the eagle is.
Here's one of the shots of seals that I got.
Here's the glacier that we stayed at for about a half hour, watching it calving. I'd never heard the term before but I found out it means big chunks falling off and hitting the water with the sound of an explosion.
This one looks much cooler in the larger size.
Every time I look at this I expect to see palm trees. This just looks tropical to me.
This bunch of seals was really neat. I like the old guy who was heading down to the water. If you look at the picture in Flickr I put a note on him so you can find him.
Here is the lodge where we had a nice salmon dinner.
Here are some whale bones we saw on the beach.
And here's the boat waiting to take us back to port.
Here's the whole cruise set.

That rainbow is amazing! As are the other pictures. (I spotted the eagle without flickr's help!)
Erin, that rainbow was so gorgeous. I'm glad I got to see it. I should've known that you would see the eagle. A true bird watcher.
:-)
I love the seals!!! Soon, the bald eagles will be migrating south -- we usually see a lot of them here in the winter, but they all head north in the summer.
I'm fascinated by whale bones. There's even a home here that has a vertebra and ribs that serve as the entrance to the home -- they're so huge!
Glad that you had such a great time and got such awesome photos!
Oh yeah, I spotted the eagle too. Neener Neener!
Courtney, the seals were fun to watch. I never thought about the eagles migrating. Hee hee, good eye that you caught it, too. :-)
The whale bones were all gray and weathered. Just had to get a picture. Thanks!
Sweet pictures!
I love the whale bones on the beach. I didn't read the text before I had looked at the pictures and I thought maybe they would be dinosaur bones that were on display. ;)
I'm loving the whal bones too. Wow! How wonderful that they're still there and haven't been taken by tourists.
LadyM, I thought the whale bones were really cool, too. Too bad they weren't dinosaur bones.
:-)
Platypus, thank goodness this is a teeny little island. I think only the cruise ships go here. Kinda hard to walk away with bones that size. :-)
That is the MOST FANTASTIC rainbow picture I've EVER seen!!!! Too bad about the wires. :(
I've always said that the only cruise I'd ever want to take, would be an Alaskan cruise. Your pictures proved me right.
tshsmom, there was no way to keep the wires out of the shot. But the rainbow was just amazing.
An Alaskan cruise is the way to go. I don't know if I'd want to do the kind where you live on the boat, but a day cruise, 8.5 hours for the one we did, is great!
Wonderful, Squirl! What a great adventure! Thanks again for letting us vicariously travel with you.
Yeah, our home sunset photos always have wires too. They're the only thing spoiling perfection. :(
I'm too claustrophobic to live on a cruise ship. A day cruise is the only way to go!
Nick, I'm so glad you enjoyed it. I wish I could've sent you some of the cool weather from there.
tshsmom, you'd really like it, I'm sure. Just don't know when you guys will get the time.
Lovely, just lovely.
So cool. I loved all your photo's through the trip. You must have had a wonderful time. Still waiting for the Guest speaker LOL... I can just imagine the beauty he saw while alone after you came home.
Double rainbows = twice as gay!
Dem bones, dem bones, dem whale bones.
Your pictures are always so purty. I still say, next time you and I are taking a girls' vacation. No one will know what either one of us looks like, because we will have cameras in front of our faces the entire time.
Great pictures, Squirl! What a wonderful adventure. Thanks for letting us tag along.
I love the rainbow photo.
And it is great that you had such a nice cruise. It sounds and looks just lovely. :-)
I hope you can hear my "ARTART EAARARRRTT's" from all the way over there. It's my seal of appreciation ;-)
htgt, thank you!
Tweety, I'll see if I can get him to write that post.
Bucky, twice as gay is twice as good? I think a camera trip with you would be lots of fun.
Laurie, thank you, and wow, you're welcome.
Danielle, thanks! You guys should go there sometime. I think you'd like it.
Chiakittn, thanks for the seal!
Wonderful as always Squirl. The rainbow took my breath away.
Thanks, Nina! I'm glad you enjoyed them. Especially when your pictures are so beautiful. :-)
