Met a new goal that I didn't know I'd set
I did something today that I've never done before. My department had a 5K run/walk and I participated. I didn't run, but still, walking three miles quickly is not something I've tried before.
This time last year I was still trying to heal from that stupid fall in March. Since I'm not athletic in the least, I have to say that I'm pretty proud of my 48 minute finish for 3.1 miles. I didn't win any prizes, but I did prove to myself that I could do it.
We'll see how I feel tomorrow. But tonight, after a couple of shots of Glenfiddich, I'm feeling pretty good.

You not only walked 5k today, but you hefted sandwiches to my house. Well done! :)
Get a bike. Excercise is much more gooder when you're sitting down for it.
*Bucky made him think about Fastway doing "Heft", which is good shit*
You're a hottie!
Wow. Congrats. Right now I dont know if I could do that one. I just went back to work and I am sore.
Awesome! By my calculations, you walked 15.5 min per mile. That is a really good clip and hard to sustain for 3 miles!
Coolio. :-)
Bucky, yes, I brought the sammiches. And they were good.
Thanks!
Mr B, I have a bike. I'm just nervous about traffic. But I could cover a lot more ground on a bike than on foot.
Chia, are you talking about my hot flashes? ;-)
Tweety, thanks! You're working? I've been a really bad blog buddy. Need to catch up on you.
Danielle, thanks! I don't want to do that every day. :-)
Glenfiddich reminds me of Quidditch, which isn't exactly related at all, but I'd like to see a game a Quidditch in which all the players have had a bit of Glenfiddich. ;-D
And good going on your walk! That is pretty fast for walking!
Yes working 3rd shift cleaning but I was told last night that is going to go to one day a week after my training period is over.
LadyM, I love your train of thought. So glad to see that you're back. And that would be some pretty interesting Quidditch. :-)
Tweety, I'm sorry you're not getting many hours in. I hope one night a week will be worth it for you.
Congrats on the 5k - You are speedy! That is just about how fast I think I walk when I am really trying to walk fast. Did you end up having more Glenfiddich tonight? ;-)
Congratulations, Squirl! That is wonderful. When are you going to enter a triathlon?

ONE thing this town has going for it is the Green Belt Park. It's 1 mile from my house and a really nice park is about half-way to the Green Belt Park. Nice paved path for walking/jogging/biking. No motor vehciles allowed.

Jenski, thanks! No, I had an Oberon!
Nick, thanks! Um, no triathlon for me. Thanks for the vote of confidence, though.
Mr B, that would be much easier. Looks like a nice ride, by the river and all.
Congratulations!
Walking is the ONLY way to go; running is too hard on the body. As our population ages, I think we'll see a lot more walking marathons.
Thanks, tshsmom! I've loved to walk all of my life. Ichabod and I just got back from a walk that took us over an hour and a half. Of course part of it was stopping to take pictures. I hope to post those soon.
That's a mighty fine accomplishment. Walking fast is a good skill to save for a rainy day.
and remember...
"Never run unless chased"

Thanks, Bone! I do tend to walk faster if I get caught in the rain. Excellent quote, I'll follow that advice. :-)
