Now it's breakfast cereal
Last night I was playing the beginning of the song Elephant Walk on the piano. It's from the movie Hatari. John Wayne is in it and it's about capturing animals for a zoo.
Ichabod was saying that he thought he liked that movie when he was a little kid. Then he realized the only good John Wayne movies are the ones that shoot-'em-up and have NO comedy. "The rest" in his words, "are just cream of wheat."

Thanks, Brad
I'm not a big John Wayne fan. I prefer Clint Eastwood.
I am afraid I have to disagree. "McClintoc", with Maureen O'Hara, was VERY funny!
I saw Hatari in its first run in the movie theatre back in .. damn, what was it, around 1961? (I'm so old.)
I was like 7 at the time. My brother was told to take me to the movies, but we disagreed. He went to see "Man In The Iron Mask" - the promos for which scared the shit out of me. So I wouldn't go, and he dropped me off at Hatari. Sat there in the darkness, all by myself in the movies for the first time ... and watched John Wayne lasso rhinos.
I loved John Wayne in that movie. Have never liked him, before or since.
And I LOVE "The Baby Elephant Walk".
John Wayne was larger than life. His tough image lives on...
Gotta go with "pope" Benny on Eastwood. Them's my fave westerns (and the young Clint...oh, my panties just fell off).
And Bear...I love "McClintock!" I mean, a movie where a man chases his underwear-clad wife down a crowded street, then spanks her with a spatula as the whole town looks on and cheers? WHAT'S NOT TO LOVE?
Before I answer anyone here personally let me explain that Ichabod was only talking about John Wayne when he said the Cream of Wheat thing. He was not maligning any other actors, e.g. Clint Eastwood. He only likes John Wayne movies when they do the shoot-em-up thing with no comedy. He'll watch Clint Eastwood any day.
Kitty: "McClintock!" is the best. My opinion is the only one which truly counts. And, you know, there's that whole spanking thing in there.
Pope-baby so glad to see you. You unseated my buddy, Jess, but she still has a cool asswood so I guess that's fair.
GreatWhite I'm not a big JW fan so I proably haven't seen it.
Nilbo I think I saw part of Hatari on TV years ago. I like the song the best, though.
Jamiedawn many feel the same way you do.
Groovyvic I'm learning more about John Wayne than I ever thought I would.
Bucky, Bucky, Bucky what am I gonna do with you?
Kitty Bucky would definitely know better than I would.
Bucky.. my favorite scene is where the indian chief says something like white men fight, booze all gone, indians go home now

The rest being "cream of wheat" kind of reminds me of my dad's opinion of Top Gun.
His words "The beginning and the end are the only good parts, the rest is just bubble-gum."
Of course, I disagree that the jet/fight scenes are the only good parts. Because well, the VOLLEYBALL scene simply MUST go down in history as one of the best hunky guy movie scenes in history.
mmmmmm... sweaty, muscled man chests.
Danielle, works for me too. ;-)
