Ichabod's Excellent Adventure
Last week Ichabod took a couple of days off from work. On Friday he decided to go kayaking with his father down the Muskegon River. Luckily, he took his camera along. There were loads of great nature shots to be had.
The first was this picture of three water snakes.
Then there was the button bush.
Of course, you know I'm gonna love the swan.
This shot of the water lilly is worth clicking on to see the larger picture.
Then when he went under a bridge he saw these swallows' nests. Too bad he wasn't able to get a good shot with a little bird head peaking out.
He also caught a good picture of an old anchor covered in zebra mussels.
However, my favorite of the whole set was this series of shots he got of a Great Blue Heron. It shows how the heron saw him, reacted and then took off.
Here the heron had seen him and was getting a little nervous.
Getting more nervous, he turns around.
Nervously turning one more time.
Okay, he's had it. He's taking off.
And there he goes.

I would have to say Ichabod had an Excellent Adventure. The photos are beautiful. I love nature, the Great Blue Heron intrigued me, I had not seen one until this year, when one took up a nest in the lake behind our house. So I liked all the pictures, even the snakes, and I am not a snake person.
Hi Nanina, welcome! I'm guessing you came over from Sierrabella's blog. I'm not keen on snake's either, but he really did get a good shot of them. I love the herons. Last year I even saw a Snowy Egret. We get some good birds here in Michigan. I see you're from Colorado, don't know what kind of birds you get there but I'm there are plenty that I've never seen before.
Have a fun trip. I've only been to Santa Fe once, but it's really pretty there.
Give my regards to Ichabod for the photos! I love the snakes and the water lily.
I knew I was forgetting one! The button bush was my favorite!
Huh huh...
Button bush...
Huh huh...
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagh.
You just HAD to put the snake one at the beginning? why not the button bush? or the water lily? or well, the swan?
I'm still feeling creeped out.
But the heron shots helped erase it some. Those are neat. I like the progression.
And the large water lily is gorgeous. nice reflection.
Your guess is right that I came over from Sierrabella's Blog. :)
I am from Northern Colorado, and we do have a lot of different birds. What we don't have that I really wish we did are Cardinals. Their color just is amazing.
We are only a 6 1/2 hours drive from Santa Fe . . . it is pretty.
Ern, I will, thanks! Glad you enjoyed.
Okay, Bucky, that'll be about enough out of you, young lady.
Danielle, oops, sorry. Didn't mean to freak anybody out. It didn't bother me because I wasn't kayaking right next to them. It was just the first thing he took photos of when he was out and, except for the heron, everything was in the order of his trip. Just keep looking at the birds.
Nanina, yes, I really love having the cardinals here. They are gorgeous.
Very cool pics! I loved the water lilly shot. And the heron series was made even better by your narration.
Those photos are great! But Bucky made me laugh, even in the face of such spectacular pictures. How can she make even a plant into a sexual innuendo?! That's talent, right there folks. ;)
Thanks, Ladybug, I'll tell Ichabod you liked his photos. I didn't think the heron series was as good without a little narration.
Eclectic, thanks. But leave it to Bucky.
Great photos.
I'm surprised Bucky didn't somehow mention the dreaded trouser snakes...
*heh heh heh*
Sierrabella, actually, she almost did make that comment. Thanks!
Great shots Squirl. Looks like Ichabod had an interesting day. I have some haron shots at my place I took the other day. I had you in mind when I took them too!
Beautiful. I feel like I've been on an adventure. Thanks for sharing. Well done!
It's so encouraging to see the Trumpeter Swan making such a GREAT COMEBACK. They were almost extinct 30 yrs ago.
August95, you know how I love the birds. And I love your heron pictures.
Laurenbove, thank you. I'm so glad you enjoyed.
tshsmom, aren't the swans great? I love 'em.
That makes me think of the EB White book Trumpet of the Swan.
There. Nice comment, no sexual innuendo visible. Not even a word about stranglin' the swan. Nope.
(huh huh "trouser snake" huh huh)
Thanks, Bucky, I needed a good laugh.
Now Bucky has me in a wrong frame of mind and I just want to call your boyfriend Lic a bod.
Oh, yeah, your frame of mind is ALL my fault.
Because you were such a NICE girl before you met me.
DP, thanks!
Jess, I have to start calling him that. That's pretty funny.
Bucky, I get the feeling that you and Jess would make a great comedy duo.
Kitty, I didn't realize that's where you were tubing. Um, trouser snakes, yeah. The link didn't pull up any slug porn, though.
Congrats, Kitty!!
I STILL can't figure out that link thing! Posting pictures is as high-tech as I get! Maybe someday....
Those snakes are scary but what cool nests. Looks like a wonderful adventure. How nice that you have that kind of retreat to go to.
Yay, Kitty, you did html. That's some pretty graphic animal porn. I sent it to Ichabod. We share.
tshsmom, I have that code someplace, too, but I've never even tried to use it.
Kranki, thanks, Ichabod really liked those nests. Too bad he couldn't get a picture of the bird heads sticking out.
Let's see if I can do this without giving the browser real code to interpret.
To make a link in comments:
leftpointybracket A HREF="http://www.yoururl.com" rightpointybracket The Text You Wish To Be A Link leftpointybracket /A rightpointybracket
Can I publish a pointy bracket without its being interpreted as code?
I'll just show you the leftpointybracket:

Thanks, Resqiescat. Nice to see you here again.
Bucky, that's pretty darn tricky.
How wonderful! The pics are so beautiful. I'm glad he had such a great time.
Hey, Kitty, html is justing sitting all over the place waiting to be copied and pasted.
Jamie Dawn, thanks!
HTML hates me! *pout*
tshsmom, html is a bugger. It is not very forgiving. You have to have it EXACT or it will give you the cyber-finger. Keep practicing, maybe you can get past its rude ways.
Hee hee. You said bush.
Hi, Torrie! Not for nothing am I Bucky's sister. :-)
