Squirl's Nest

Don't sleep in the subway darling, don't stand in the pouring rain...

In my previous post I mentioned that The Festival of the Arts was in downtown Grand Rapids this weekend. It's supposed to be about music and arts of different kinds. But most people go there for the food.

Yesterday I had a hankerin' for (absolutely no snickering here now) a foot long chili dog. I finally decided to go get one and Ichabod said that he didn't want one but he'd accompany me.

When we started out the door it was sprinkling a bit. No big deal, it was supposed to rain, off and on, during the day. Then the drops starting getting really huge.

We'd past a number of awnings and doorways to shops/restaurants, but I figured, hey, it's only rain. Then the wind kicked up, the temperature dropped and it was miserable.

We quickly ducked under an awning of the restaurant, Louis Benton. While we tried to wait it out it also started to hail. Crap! The wind kept whipping and the rain and hail were not fun.

Finally it slowed just a little and we decided to make a run for it. We stopped at almost every place that we could in order to get away from it for a few minutes. The last stop available was the big overhang at the police station. It had slowed a bit by then and we decided to run the last block and a half. We were probably only about four-five blocks from home when we'd had to make the first stop.

I never did get that hotdog until this evening. But I did take some pictures yesterday that I'd love to share with you. Hope you had a great weekend!

Lawbrat, thanks! Actually, I did finally get that chili dog last night. :)

Danielle, the weather was pretty nasty. It got kinda chilly too. But not chili until last night.

Nina, yeah, the sky was really gorgeous. I don't know if there were any tornado warnings as I didn't check the tv at that time. And I did enjoy the chili dog. :)

Nice clouds!
Now that we're just a couple of weeks away from having a garage, I'm certain that we'll get a nasty hail storm that will damage our vehicles.

Ern, it sure was. :)

tshsmom, oh I hope not. But I would love to have a garage. I hope you're able to fit your vehicles in there. Most people store so much stuff that there's not room for cars.

How ominous! I love how the sun seems to be tearing right though 'em, though. Too bad about the foot long - but then again, I say that frequently.

Effie, yes, my clothes were still damp that night. Of course I laid them on the bed, not realizing how wet they were, so they didn't have a chance to dry.

The hotdog was good but I probably won't be having another one for a while.

And you just keep on yacking, ok?

Eclectic, I love summer storms, too. The cold, wind, and hail weren't too great to be out in, but it was a neat storm. Thanks!

Squirl, I love how you spelled "chilly" as "chili" in your response to Danielle.

Not making fun of you, but it makes me want to laugh because I thought of chili falling down from the sky and covering everything!

August, thanks! You have a great day, too. :)

Kittn, yeah, the lakeshore usually gets better storms. I'm still trying to decide what I want to do for a camera....

Nick, thank you. Actually, I finally got it on Sunday. Yay!
