Earth Day
Wednesday is Earth Day. Even though every day is really Earth day I guess it takes kick in the pants every year to remind some folks. :-)
This year I'd like honor it by linking to a post by Ian Lawton. He's the minister at Christ Community Church that's in the city next to mine. His site is Spiritual But Not Religious, SBNR. I really love to read it. This week's is titled Eating, Living, and Sleeping Green. In it you'll find his sense of humor and his sense of caring. Enjoy!

I am getting consistently better with the recycling. I wait until I accumulate 4-6 spent plastic bottles before carting them down to the recycle bins at the workplace.
I usually give one of two remarks to those that see me staggering around with so many bottles:
1) It's been a really productive day.
2) I have something of a drinking problem.
Bone, at least your drinking problem doesn't stop you from getting the bottles down to the recycle bin. :-p
Bone said "spent." *tee hee*
I'm going to go compost something. brb.
I never get any cool raccoons in my back yard. *pout*
Sadly, they're mostly spent bottles of green tea.
I used "spent" again just to give the impression of filthiness, because I am.
Great site; I've got it bookmarked now. Thanks!
I loved how he said that sleeping is good for the Earth. I really need to take more naps and help the planet more. ;)
Chia, did you compost???
Bucky, I'm sure Ian would have been glad to donate his to you.
Bone, spent sounds kind of British, too. British and filthy, works for me!
tshsmom, yes, I like being able to passively save the planet. Glad you liked Ian's site.
Well I shall pop along and take a peek in that case.
Cheers
What a beautiful photo.
We've changed trash companies recently and their recycling bins are as big as the trash bins - FINALLY! And they make it really easy to recycle paper and cardboard - no breaking down the cardboard into pieces of some "reasonable" size - which, if you don't have a box cutter, is a real deterrent to recycling.
I saw at thing on the ABC world news last night about these "artificial trees" that will suck up carbon dioxide. I imagine they pump out oxygen, but they didn't say much. I'd rather see them plant real trees - they'd be cheaper and prettier - but this would be faster, I suppose.
I'm going to go take a look at that site. I could use some pleasant reading/thoughts right now.
Is it on facebook?
That doesn't work for me, unfortunately.
Hey, Danielle - here's a non-Facebooky link to it:

Oops, how about some html instead?
SBNR.
Thanks, Maddy, enjoy.
Danielle, I'm glad they're doing recycling. At some we're going to have to or we'll be one big garbage dump. I sent you a link and I see that my sister has added it here, too! Enjoy
Thanks, sis!
What a great post by Ian. I really like the peacefulness of it and the reflection. Adding in some religious parts without making it preachy or overly-religious is also nice.
This year for Earth Day, we got a composter! I'm excited because in a neighborhood like ours, a regular old compost pile is considered a "nuisance", so we've just been throwing away our vegetable scraps for the past few years. But NO MORE!
Boy I have really been out of the loop if I forgot about Earth Day..Its almost the end of the month and I am just reading this.. LOL..
Happy B-Earthday!
That's a great Earth Day photo, Squirl!
Happy May Day!
Danielle, I'm glad you liked it. I like how it's not preachy, too.
Tweety, :-)
Bucky, thanks!
Nick, thanks!
I love the pic and will check out the site when I get home from work.
Thank you...
Laurie, so nice to "see" you here. I fixed the links so that they don't have Facebook in them. Hope you were able to check out the site.
